Interesting Stuff on the Web: Volume 22

Interesting stuff on the web is what I have read through out the week. I read a lot of articles and there is always a few that I feel is worth you reading. Often I have a different opinion than the articles I post on Interesting Stuff On The Web but they are all well written pieces. Here are the links. Enjoy !!

Don’t Count the Dollar Out Just Yet/ Marc Chandler “The dollar has been in a general downtrend for over a year, but Marc Chandler of Brown Brothers Harriman doesn’t believe this trend will continue for much longer. If a turn in the dollar does indeed take place, this will have a number of implications for investors and specific asset classes, particularly commodities.”

Duty of Care/ Greater Fool “Mom is 83, has the dreaded A-disease and stays in the ‘memory care’ wing of a retirement home in the burbs. “It’s tough to visit her now,” Nolan told me. “Not much there.”

Living Together? Think About a Cohabitation Agreement/GenYMoney “More and more millennials are living together with their partners and not getting married. According to the Financial Post, common law relationships have increased four times from 1981 to 2011 in Canada. There are a myriad of reasons why we are shacking up and living together with our partners, months or years after dating.”

The Dividend Deep Dive/Dividends Diversify  “I started Dividends Diversify to bring structure to my investment process in stocks. To do this, I run my current holdings and potential stock purchases through what I call the Dividend Deep Dive. Let’s learn about it.”

  1. Hi Steve, Thanks for the link Steve.

It will be interesting to see what happens to the dollar. Trump’s a proponent of a weak dollar to spur exports. His new director of economic policy, Larry Kudlow, has always promoted strong dollar policies.

    We shall see.

    • Hi Tom,
It will be interesting to see what happens to the dollar. I listen to Larry Kudlow on CNBC but “it is politics” and I think Trump will do what he wants.

  2. Hi Steve!

Thanks for sharing these posts. I am sure they will make a great weekend read!

I read your previous post about CPP and I was thinking about my parents. I should really think about learning about financial planning and retirement in Canada. My parents will probably need all the help they could get now that they’re going to approach retirement soon (in the next 5-7 years). Great post too!

I hope you enjoy your weekend!!

  3. Thanks for the mention Steve!

The Greater Fool article is good, thanks for sharing. Reminds me of my “My Reason for Fire: The Sandwich generation” post. I am not looking forward to dealing with my siblings about caring for my mom. It’s not going to be pretty. I have about 10 years before things will probably start to look bad though.

    • Hi GYM, the “sandwich generation” is an awkward situation that many people are facing now. I guess all we can do is enjoy the time we have with our families.
